What is Awesomeness?

26 12 2007

Thought this poster would help bring us closer to defining this word increasingly emerging in our vocabulary (as well as putting our tawdry lives into perspective). I think I’m going to need to get this poster for my son who’s a raving Star Wars fan (yes I’m one geek that spawned another geek…deal with it. As long as we can find someone to mate with us we’ll keep making more.) 🙂

It is comforting to know that no matter what you do in life, it will never be as awesome as this picture.

I find that statement of more interest and closer examination than just the word awesome.

It is “comforting” to know (?) that “no matter what you do in life” it will never be “as awesome as this picture.”

I think the saddest aspect of that poster is the fact that there are a number of people who actually buy into that statement! Very sad indeed.

Well, of course I agree. But to be clear my purpose in posting the poster is simply to share the unfathomable depths of my geekiness to the public.

Fair warning on who you’re dealing with.

What is “geekiness” but a “worldly” expression used to define someone by “worldly” standards?

Is your desire to “share the unfathomable depths” of your “geekiness” something that Christ and/or His Spirit of Holiness has called you to do?

I didn’t think so.

To the extent he has called me to share myself this is simply a part of full-disclosure – “We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well…” 1Thess. 2:8

Job 9:14 How then can I answer Him, And choose my words to reason with Him?

1 Cor 13:11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

2 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

2 Cor 6:3 We live in such a way that no one will stumble because of us, and no one will find fault with our ministry.

Gal 5:25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Heb 12:14 Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

2 Pet 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that day the heavens will disappear with a roaring sound, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done on it will be exposed.
2 Pet 3:11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, think of the kind of holy and godly people you ought to be…
Your citation of 1 Thessalaonians 2:8 is misapplied. For when it is read in context, we see the TRUE MEANING of that verse.

2:8 So deep was his affectionate concern for them, he was anxious to share with them rather than to receive from them. His was not a cold, perfunctory dispensing of the gospel of God but a pouring out of his very soul. He loved them, and love is heedless of cost. Like his Master, he did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life (Mark 10:45).

Grace and Peace.

No offense AC53 but you need to get a sense of humor.

AC53 – Ouch…it’s been a while since I’ve received a good Bible thumpin’ upside the head [rubs sore spot on head]

Your support Scriptures are excellent but I’m missing your point (conclusion).

Are you saying scifi interest is childish? A waste of time?

Would you consider Narnia and Lord of the Rings in your evaluation.

I’m interested in your thoughts.

Mark wrote “may awesomeness live on in all facets of life…even star wars”

and that from the high priest of awesomeness himself. now if only your awesomeness dispensation for star wars can extend to star trek i can be fully at rest in my geekiness.
